Congrats on taking one of the first steps towards becoming a safer driver — creating and signing a driver contract! Sure it sounds kind of silly, but like any contract, this is a commitment. Go drag your parents over here and talk about what elements you want to include in your contract. To get you started, we've included some things below that you might want to consider. But, please, customize the contract so that it's perfect for you and your folks. It may seem like a lame exercise, but it shows everyone that you truly are committed to not being another idiot on the road. There's nothing dorky about that.
Once you've drafted and signed the contract, print it out and post it somewhere all of you can see it. Don't forget to review it once in a while just to make sure you're doing what you said you'd do! And, who knows, if your driving improves or stays consistently good, you may even be able to get your parents to ease up a bit on the rules. It's worth a try, isn't it? After all, it could save your life or someone else's.
And don't forget the parent version of the Think Before You Drive contract. It's customizable, too. Though we think you'll like it just how it is.
